The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office announced that Genesi Elizabeth Sosa-Bonilla's body was located near the location where she was last seen in the water in St. Mary's County.

An alert was issued by the US Coast Guard over the weekend as they attempted to track down the girl, who went missing while swimming near Camp Merryelande in Piney Point.

Officials said that two family members were swimming together with an adult when one lost sight of the other on Sunday, July 17. One girl was rescued, and the Sosa-Bonilla went missing in the water.

A two-day search involving a Maryland State Police Trooper 7 helicopter, Charles County Fire Department Dive Team, US Coast Guard helicopters, and drones from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office were all utilized as they attempted to track down Sosa-Bonilla.

The search was temporarily suspended on Sunday night due to inclement weather before crews returned to the scene on Monday and located the girl's body.

Anyone with information regarding the case has been asked to contact the Coast Guard’s Sector Maryland Command Center by calling (410) 576-2525.
